From Salon Kid to Hair Specialist -My Story:
From a young age, I was immersed in the salon world, even spending childhood days being babysat around salons. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion, leading me to start an apprenticeship at just 14. After training at the AVEDA Institute in Victoria and under a Vidal Sassoon educator, I became an educator with MATRIX, focusing on long hair, styling, and product knowledge marketing, before joining Davines as a color correction educator.
My journey has also taken me beyond the salon. With a deep-rooted passion for marketing, I earned a Business Administration – Marketing Diploma, specializing in Web 2.0, and was awarded a scholarship for a web program I designed. Later, my curiosity about human behavior led me to pursue a counseling degree, where I delved into neuroscience and the psychology of behavior. Although I didn’t complete this program, it ultimately guided me to discover my true passion for Trichology and Epigenetics—fields that were emerging and, at the time, lacked formal designations.
This blend of expertise in marketing, behavioral science, and hair health has enriched my approach, allowing me to serve as a well-rounded specialist in the hair industry.
In 2008, I began studying Trichology via the IAT, but after the Calgary floods, my plans took a turn, leading to bankruptcy. Resilient, I shifted my focus and became a professional hair blogger and ghostwriter, building a widely recognized voice. In 2020, I returned to complete my Trichology designation via the WTS, taking on roles as a professor and webmaster.
In 2023, I co-founded The Hair Wire alongside two fellow trichologists—a platform dedicated to educating both professionals and the public on hair and scalp health, with topics ranging from hair loss and trichology to epigenetics and wellness. This venture has become my primary focus, where I now serve as the webmaster, business educator, and speaker on the powerful role of Epigenetics in hair and scalp health.
I have a deep thirst for knowledge, continuously pursuing advanced training and certifications (too many to list!). My dedication to studying hair science has earned me the title of a true hair specialist. Over my career, I’ve also served as a consultant, educator, and marketer in the industry, owned Salon Reform in Calgary’s Beltline, and became well-known for bridal styling and hair extensions—earning a Contessa nomination and features in bridal magazines. For me, hair isn’t just a profession; it’s a lifelong commitment to mastery.
In my downtime, I enjoy creating jewelry—a passion that, thanks to my marketing background, unexpectedly evolved into a business. I design pieces for intention setting and everyday wear, including bridal and event jewelry. Each piece is crafted with purpose, merging artistry with a deeper meaning.
