Winter Hair – Prepare your Hair for Winter! | Kerri Jarrett, Trichology and Epigeentics

February 24, 20262 min read

Jack Frost is striking us with his presence, which means time to change your regimen, and it is time to get your winter hair ready. We recommend that if you care for your hair and the shape it is in you should make sure you take the following precautionary steps.  Kerri’s rule of thumb is if you start to have to increase your moisturizers for your hands and face it is also time to increase the moisture property in your shampoo and conditioner(s).  Talk to your stylist the next time you are in about a good regimen for you to use to lock in the moisture in your hair and to keep its shine.  Salon Reform likes to use Montovani’s Extra-Rich Conditioner and Shampoo Extra Bellisima, it is a custom designed hairline with all natural ingredients.

Here are a few more tricks to help prepare you for this winter season:

Static

  • Use shampoos that don’t contain harsh chemicals. Davines, Kevin Murphy, and Aveda are a few of my favorite go tos for chemical free products.

  • Serums are great, but be careful not to use too much, as they can weigh hair down.

  • Lightly spritz a bit of hairspray to tame any unwanted frizz.

  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Hydration

  • Rinse your hair with cold water to help lock in your moisture and make hair shiny.

  • Use leave-in moisturizers or conditioners.

  • Make time for weekly moisture treatments.

  • Try to limit the number of times you use mechanical styling tools like curling and straightening irons.

  • And make sure you use your heat protection spray.

Cold Weather

  • Make sure you don’t leave the house with damp or wet hair.  Not only will you run the risk of getting a nasty cold, but you’ll also increase your chances of getting some unwanted hair breakage.

  • Wear a scarf or hat to protect your hair from the wind-wind will cause damage to your ends.

Along with winter also sometimes comes a Dry Scalp, so How to Know if You Have Dandruff or Simply a Dry Scalp.
