Wavy Hair Tips for Fine to Medium Hair

I am very familiar with having wavy hair, and not just wavy hair but fine to medium wavy hair. I often find the shampoos out there for wavy to curly hair are for thicker hair types are far too heavy for my hair type. And the shampoos for finer hair, have very little to no detangling aid what so ever. So here from my own personal experiences, favorite products I personally use, along with a few of my top wavy hair tips for fine to medium hair:

  • While in shower condition hair and brush hair while in the shower with comb or brush of choice. I like to use Framesi Smooth Conditioner, plus it smells amazing!
  • Rinse out conditioner. I use a wet brush to detangle followed by a bristle brush to pull out all the dead hair, the dead hair that does not fall after shedding tangles the hair.
  • Once out towel BLOT, not rub hair; use a towel to scrunch out major portions of water.  (Rubbing hair with a towel to try will only cause frizz and the hair to break from the pack to form the perfect curl formation and condition).
  • Do not comb hair after out of the shower; you already did when you brushed or combed out any of the loose hairs while in the shower with the conditioner.  The WHOLE purpose of brushing is to only remove natural hair shed to prevent tangles.
  • Then apply a styling product.  I like to use the AG Re:coil on days I like to have a soft wave…you can get definition in your curl ( I like that I can get the same results whether its air dried or blow dried).  I am not sure if it is just me (as I have fine to medium curly hair myself) it is hard to find a product that gives you a consistent result.  I either find one that makes it wet looking or frizzy looking, and that is all depending on if you use a blow dryer with a diffuser or let it air dry.  I can use the loosely defined when wet to air dry or with my diffuser and I KNOW I will get the same result I expected.  On days I want a fuller look to my curl I will use AG Mousse along with my diffuser.  I find I get great SOFT and voluptuous curl/wave.
  • On days I want to touch up my curls or “trigger” them, I use AG Hair Curl Trigger Curl Defining Spray and/or the Davines Sea Salt Spray.

The tip I CANNOT stress enough is, get your hair trimmed regularly, my rule of thumb is as soon as it starts to feel tangly, book an appointment. I will have my hair lightly layered, and softly point cut to shape it, and then I have a deeper point cutting applied to the middle section of my hair to define my curl. Your hairdresser should be able to do this for you if they are familiar with cutting finer or wavier types of hair. If you are worried about the correct terminology, please comment below and I will advise what to ask for from a stylists perspective and terminology for you.  🙂
