What is the evolutionary reason for men losing their hair?
The Answer For Hair Loss and Baldness:

If you do have hair loss and baldness blame it on the hormones. “Natural” loss of hair is called androgenic alopecia. Enzymes in male bodies convert testosterone – the principal male sex hormone – into dihydrotestosterone (aka DHT is a hormone that, among other things, makes hair shorter and thinner). The amount of this enzyme one has is hereditary but it’s uncertain whether it’s determined by the mother’s or the father’s genes, or perhaps both. Male-pattern baldness is a result of changing hormone levels over the course of a man’s life. As there are also other causes of hair loss, including some serious health conditions, it is important to establish any underlying factors for baldness.

Hair Loss: A Common Problem

About 85% of men will have major hair thinning by the time they’re 50. Some guys start to lose theirs before they turn 21.
